Post-Processing
Digital images can be manipulated for evaluation in various ways. Post-processing includes: Subtraction, addition, rotation, inversion, multiplanar reconstruction (MPR), maximum intensity projection (MIP), etc.
Subtraction is particularly useful in contrast enhanced examinations. The pre contrast images are subtracted from the images after an injection of contrast agents (sometimes also called dye) for better tumor detection. See also Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography, Digital Subtraction Angiography and Active Zone.
Sampling
Conversion of the analog signal to a series of digital values by measurement at a set of particular times; this utilizes the analog to digital converter. If the rate of sampling is less than twice the highest frequency in the signal, aliasing will occur. The duration of sampling determines how small a difference of frequencies can be separated.

Angiography
Arthrogram
An arthrogram is an x-ray fluoroscopy of a joint performed with a sequential digital subtracted spot films after injection of a contrast agent.

See Arthrography.
Biopsy
A biopsy is a procedure in which tissue samples are collected. This can be done with a needle, which is inserted into the abnormal area.
An example is the needle breast biopsy. Needle biopsies are usually guided by different imaging techniques like ultrasound, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging. Stereotactic-assisted breast biopsies use computer maps to guide the needle. The location of the breast lump is provided from digital mammograms taken from two angles.
The cells can be removed and examined under a microscope to determine whether the abnormality is cancerous.

See also CT Guided Biopsy.
