Gamma Camera
(Scintillation Camera, Scintillation Gamma Camera, Gamma Scintillation Camera or Anger Gamma Camera) A gamma camera is an imaging device used in nuclear medicine to scan patients who have been injected, inhaled, or ingested with small amounts of radioactive materials emitting gamma rays. The gamma camera records the quantity and distribution of the radionuclide that is attracted to a specific organ or tissue of interest.
The first gamma camera was developed and introduced by Hal O. Anger in 1957/58. The structure hasn't changed by today. A gamma camera consists of:
a collimator, usually a multihole collimator;
detector crystals, typically thallium-activated NaI scintillation crystal are used;
photomultiplier tube array
shielding to minimize background radiation
position logic circuits
and the data analysis computer

Through this design the simultaneous registration of gamma ray photons is possible, the computer further allows dynamic imaging.

Tomography
Tomography is imaging by sections or sectioning to obtain images of slices through objects like the human body. Tomography is derived from the Greek words 'to cut or section' (tomos) and 'to write' (graphein). A device used in tomography is called a tomograph, while the image produced is a tomogram.
The first medical applications utilized x-rays for images of tissues based on their x-ray attenuation coefficient. The mathematical basis for tomographic imaging was laid down by Johann Radon. This type of imaging is used in different medical applications as for example computed tomography, ultrasound imaging, positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) also called magnetic resonance tomography (MRT).
Conventional x-ray tomographic techniques show organ structures lying in a predetermined plane (the focal plane), while blurring the tissue structures in planes above and below by linear or complex geometrical motion of the x-ray tube and film cassette.
Basically, computed tomography is the reconstruction of an image from its projections. In the strict sense of the word, a projection at a given angle is the integral of the image in the direction specified by that angle. The CT images (slices) are created in the axial plane, while coronal and sagittal images can be rendered by computer reconstruction.

3D Reconstruction
A wide range of software techniques and advanced computer systems are developed that enable creation of three-dimensional images. Spiral CT allows the acquisition of CT data that is perfectly suited to 3D reconstruction. Advanced CT scanners image entire anatomic regions like the lungs in one breath hold and acquire a volume of data with the patient anatomy all in one position. This volume data is reconstructed to provide 3 dimensional pictures of for example complex blood vessels like the renal arteries or aorta. 3D reconstructions allow surgeons to visualize complex fractures in three dimensions and can help them plan reconstructive surgery.
Algorithm
An algorithm is a computer compatible equation. Computed tomographic algorithms reconstruct a function from its projections. A very large number of measurements are processed with complex mathematical operations to compute cross-sectional images.
